The Environmental Studies Center is anaturalsciences education facility designed to provide uniquelearningexperiences. In addition, wildlife rehabilitation plays avitalrole each day at the Center. Featuring over 500 acres ofrichwoodlands, the Center affords teachers, students, and thegeneralpublic an opportunity to experience firsthand thenaturalenvironment. Natural resources include pine and bayforests,swamps, freshwater streams, carnivorous plant bog, andatwenty-acre lake.Man-made resources include numerous nature trails,coveredpavilions, live animal exhibits, butterfly garden, andnative plantgarden. Indoor facilities include an auditorium,library, classroomcontaining live reptile exhibits, a saltwateraquarium, andnumerous preserved specimens native to Alabama.The Environmental Studies Center houses a wildliferehabilitationprogram that is dedicated to the care and potentialrelease ofinjured and orphaned native wildlife. The wildliferehabilitationprogram receives over 600 wild patients a year.These animals allneed food, care, and shelter to survive. Theprogram relies upondonations from people like you for itsoperation.Numerous staff-led programs are available to public, private,andparochial schools. Teachers may choose from programs thatarecorrelated to the Alabama Science Course of Study at eachgradelevel. These programs include animal studies, plant studies,andSTARLAB planetarium studies. All programs requireadvancedreservations and may be subject to group size limitations.Summercamp programs are also available.

One specific Student Services program istheAlternate Learning Center (ALC). The ALC is a K-12 schoolforchildren with severe emotional, behavioral and mentalhealthdisabilities. Students are provided with academic programmingandtaught skills needed to make a successful transition back totheirhome schoolSchool Improvement Consultants work with district teachersandcurriculum directors to improve instruction andsupportprofessional development objectives.Gifted Education serves students in six school districtsAs an authorized Pearson VUE test center, we offer the GED aswellas approximately 80 other computer-based assessments.Challenger Learning Center immerses students in arealisticsimulation of NASA’s Mission Control Center and SpaceLab.State Support Team – Region One: The SSTR1 is responsible fortheregional delivery of school improvement, literacy,specialeducation compliance, and early learning and schoolreadinessservices to districts. The Mission of Alma Bryant High School istoprovide a productive learning environment that fosterspersonalgrowth and good citizenship and offers equal opportunitiesfor eachstudent to become a successful, responsible, independent,lifelonglearner serving worthy purposes in society.Alma Bryant High School was formed by combining Alba High SchoolandGrand Bay High School. The students were given the opportunitytoselect a mascot. The vote came down to the Hurricanes ortheBulldogs with the Hurricanes becoming the final choice.Schoolcolors were also chosen by the students. They were notallowed touse any color used by either of the two high schools. Thecolors ofblue, white, and silver were selected to represent AlmaBryantpride.

On September 4, 1963, in the southernsuburbanregion of county, the doors of the Ben C. Rain High Schoolopenedto admit approximately 1, 200 junior and senior highschoolstudents. This was the day that many of the students hadawaitedeagerly, and at times impatiently, for four long years.Though thebuilding itself was new, the school was actually fouryears old onthat September day.To meet the needs of fast-growing South Mobile, Rain High Schoolwasorganized in 1959 and was housed in temporary quarters in theOldRobert E. Lee School on Madison Street where Rain's seventhandeighth grade students were transported by public school buses.Ongrade was added to the school each year. Thus, the firstseniorclass of approximately 114 students graduated in May of1964.Located on 22-acre tract of land on Dauphin Island Parkway,thelong-awaited new building was designed by Harry Inge Johnstoneandbuilt by J. F. Pate Construction Company at a cost of$1,500,000.Financing was by state bond issue.B. C. Rain High School is accredited by the Southern AssociationofColleges and Schools.
